Proceeds from the farm stand are used to subsidize prices of food for others in our community who need assistance. The farm stands offer certified organic produce from Soil Born Farms as well as produce
from other small local farmers (see the growers we purchase
from). When you shop at the farm stand you are supporting many small farms and local growers from Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, El Dorado, Yuba, Sutter, Solano and San Joaquin counties! We encourage you to walk or ride your bike to the farm stand and bring your own bag. Cash and EBT accepted.
Head Start Farm Stands Between 2008 and 2010, we operated community farm stands and other food access programs at a total of 10 Head Start pre-schools, serving food access needs and providing a new sales outlet for local farmers.

Background on the Community Farm Stand Model
Urban
produce stands are an increasingly popular model for introducing fresh
produce into low income neighborhoods which have difficulty supporting
supermarkets, small retail markets, restaurants and farmers markets.
Non-profit organizations, schools with garden programs, and small
farmers are setting up individual stands which sell produce they have
grown themselves or have procured from other local farmers thereby
providing under-served communities with much needed access to locally
produced fresh fruits and vegetables.
Benefits of Produce Stands
- Reduced management, coordination and permitting costs
- Small space requirements allow more site options directly
within under-served communities
- Ability to meet localized community (neighborhood) needs
for fresh, culturally appropriate produce
- Reduced transportation requirements for local residents and
local growers
- Creates community gathering place
- Opportunity for health/nutrition education
- Closer relationship between the consumer and farmer (often
direct with the farmer)
- Direct sales reduce costs for consumers and allow farmers
to receive more money
