Join Candis and her team in learning the basics of Western Herbology while integrating it with the systems of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine. This six-month course will include medicine-making, plant ID, how to treat acute ailments, use of tonic herbs and food for strengthening vitality, as well as how to harvest local herbs for medicine. You will learn about your own constitutional needs and ways to balance yourself for better health and wellbeing. This program will include herb walks around the farm and the American River. There will be lots of tasting, smelling, and hands-on experience with the herbs!

The Farm Business Planning Workshop Series is intended for beginning farmers and ranchers in the first few years of production. Thea Rittenhouse, along with other sustainable agriculture experts, will address farm business and marketing plans, logistics and legalities of starting a farm business, finding land, and record keeping essentials. Students will finish the series with a draft business plan and a greater understanding of the business skills necessary for a successful farm.

There is a constant conversation going on in the wilds of the American River Parkway. Those who have the skills and understanding to join the conversation can interpret the behavior and natural language of birds. Learn about this lost art and expand your knowledge of what is happening in the natural world. The class will explore the basic core routines of bird language, the 'shapes of alarm', and the sound and motion-based alarm signature that each animal generates as it moves across the landscape. Come wander the grounds of Camp Pollock with a team of naturalists and learn how to diminish your ring of disturbance and expand your ring of awareness while in the field, so you will be able to see more wildlife on your own journeys. We will also touch on 'backyard bird' language practices and routines, so you can join in on the conversation at home.
