American River Ranch

The American River Ranch is transitioning towards becoming the permanent home of Soil Born Farms Urban Agriculture Project. Approximately 25 acres in size, the American River Ranch has the increased production capacity to allow Soil Born Farms to meet the demands of our farmers market stands, produce stands, restaurants, and educational programs. Coupled with the increasing production of healthy food is the plan for a full complement of youth and adult interpretive and educational activities relevant to and supportive of our unique river ecosystem.

Though completely surrounded by urban development, the farm resides within the Goethe reach of the American River Parkway. In stark contrast to the strip malls and residential houses that dominate the larger landscape of Sacramento, this amazing landscape is dominated by broad vistas, abundant river habitat and deep alluvial soils. Still in its early implementation, the vision for the ranch is the creation of a “wild farm.” This unique ecological approach to farming integrates native perennial wildlife corridors with annual and perennial orchard crop production.

The Sacramento Chapter of the California Native Plant Society will also operate a small nursery on the site.
